Kept a pub, The Plough Inn, at Grimstone Road (SAG memoirs). 1881 census shows address as The Bell Inn (99 Norfolk Street)- was he licensee here too?

"Uncle Jack"? - A driver on the railways - South Lynn (SAG memoirs). Lived opposite UEJ Pooley in Queen's Avenue?

2. Charles Edward POOLEY (1866-1924).

Born 1866, Terrington, St Clement, Norfolk. Occupation Railway Guard; Railway Traffic Inspector abt 1915. Married 1886, Kings Lynn. Died 22 May 1924.

Living at the Bell Inn, 99 Norfolk Street abt 1881. Living at 21 Gladstone Road, South Lynn abt 1901. RDG gives a later address of 7 Whitefriares Road, Kings Lynn. Died at the age of 57. Worked as an Inspector on the railways.

Sp. Cecilia Hannah TERELINCK (1867-1925), dau. of Sebastian Jacobus TERELINCK (1838-1913) and Hannah WATSON (1841-1897).

Born 1867, Kings Lynn. Died 22 Aug 1925.

Died aged 59.

Born 1886, Kings Lynn. 2 Occupation Errand Boy Grocer abt 1901; driver on the railways (UEJ).

"My brother Charlie was a driver" at South Lynn (UEJ).

"Johnny was a Guard" on the Railways at South Lynn (UEJ).

3. Kate Jane POOLEY 3 (1891-1891).

Born 1891, King's Lynn. Died 1891, King's Lynn.

Aged 3 months on 1891 census.

3. Ursula Ellen Jane POOLEY (1895-1981).

Born 12 Jan 1895, Kings Lynn; Civil Parish South Lynn. Occupation Apprenticed to Dressmaker. Married 18 Jan 1915. Died 17 May 1981.

"Nanna Gibbo", "Nellie", Apprenticed to Dressmaker as a girl, for which she had to pay a fee of half a crown (2 shillings and sixpence) a week. Lived at 21 Gladstone Road until about 1905, then moved to Harvey Villa, Queen's Avenue (see SAG memoirs). This is her earliest memory. Living in Wisbech Road, Kings Lynn, prior to marriage. Her friend who lived along Wisbech Road was called Mabel Patten. Another friend , who went to school with her and also did dress making, was called Elsie Broad (was one of these the girl she is photographed with at about age 15 or 16?). NG did 2 years unpaid apprentiship (so that she would learn how to make her own clothes and her mother's) but didn't want to stay on to "Improvers" where you would get paid half a crown a week. She said that she never earned any money. She used to say there was a Dutch Count in the family!

Sp. Sidney Arthur GIBBONS (1890-1981), son of James Charles GIBBONS (1853?-1909) and Bertha Angelina BARNARD (1855?- ).

Born 25 Feb 1890, 22 Railway Road, Kings Lynn, Civil Parish St Margaret. 2,4 Occupation abt 1915 Bandsman 5th Norfolk Reserve Regiment; Locomotive Charge Hand/ Fitter and Turner. Died 26 Oct 1981.

"Grandad Gibbo"; left school at 15, then went to work with his dad on the railways. Living at 48(?) Palmerston Road, Woodston, prior to marriage. Marriage certificate witnessed by J C Gibbons (brother) and R Linford Jnr. Father (James Gibbons) was deceased by time of marriage. Sang with Uncle Charlie (James Charles) in the church choir. Bandsman during WW1 - I remember him playing the 'spoons' at the dinner table! About 1927, living at 12 Cyprus Road, Cambridge. Moved to 80 Perne Road in 1937. Had an Uncle "Old Phil Barnes" (spouse: Emma). He was "a sailor ... a rough old boy" who'd been to China and who had a pub in North End. (SAG memoirs).

4. Sydney Charles GIBBONS (1915-1989).

Born 2 Sep 1915. Occupation Domestic Bursar Emmanuel College, Cambridge. Died 13 Jan 1989.

St Philip's Junior School, CCHS (Cambs High School for Boys "County"). Worked for Bidwell's and Joshua Taylor's. In WW2 volunteered for Royal Army Pay Corps, posted to North Africa and Italy. Having worked at Emmanuel College as Domestic Bursar before retiring, he was given a "Fellows Funeral" which included a procession round the College Courtyard, a service in the College and the flag flown at half mast.

Sp. Eileen BROOK ( - ), dau. of Olive Kathleen Mary ( - ).

Eileen loved cats, stuffed toys, nail varnish and the colour purple. She loved gardening but hated cutting anything back.

4. Ursula Pauline Genevieve GIBBONS (1917-2000).

Born 30 Nov 1917. Occupation Bursar's Assistant at Perse School for Boys. Died 5 Oct 2000, Cambridge.

Work included: Weatherhead's, Eden Lillies (where she met Ron), Bread Shop on Chesterton Road, Perse School. Ursula eloped with Ron - she left wearing several layers of clothes (a suitcase would have aroused suspicion).

Sp. Ron STELEY ( - ).

Occupation Eden Lillies.

During WW2, Ron was a Prisoner of War in Japan. For several years Ursula didn't know where he was or whether he was still alive.

4. Raymond (Ray) Douglas GIBBONS (1922- ).

Born 28 Sep 1922, Cambridge. Occupation Rent Collector with South Cambs District Council. Married 5 Jul 1952.

Romsey Junior School, CCHS (Cambs High School for Boys, "County"). Worked initially in Railway Goods Department, Cambridge. In WW2 joined Royal Army Service Corps, posted to North Africa and Egypt.

4. Roland Donovan GIBBONS (1930- ).

Born 2 Feb 1930, Cambridge. Occupation Deputy Investment Advisor (Senior Officer) with British Rail (BR HQ London).

Romsey Junior School, CCHS (Cambs High School for Boys (County). 26 August 1946 joined British Rail as a Junior Clerk. 1948-50 RAF Corporal Clerk. Magistrate, Gideon and Baptist Church deacon.

Sp. Rosalyn Smith REED (1932- ), dau. of Sidney REED (1902-1989) and Mabel Elsie SMITH (1905- ).

Born 1899, Kings Lynn. 2 Occupation Railway Booking Clerk at South Lynn?- Station Master at Eastville (source RDG).

"Fred was booking clerk at Eastville" (UEJ). RDG says: he was gassed in WW1 (France?) . Ray Gibbons remembers him having a motorbike and sidecar. Lived in a bungalow at Eastville with 'Aunt May' (RDG).
